Q. What is HotShots all about?
A. HotShots believes the primary reason a child participates in youth sports is to simply have FUN! Our goals for each participant are: * Learn new skills and improve personal play * Learn to work as a TEAM * Create new friendships * Practice Good Sportsmanship and Respect for others * Have FUN!
HotShots monitors the league very closely - and parents are encouraged to contact Richard Camp (HotShots Director) at any time, if they have comments or concerns. HotShots Youth Sports is known for being highly organized and for it's "customer service". As the Columbian newspaper said in a full page article about HotShots [April 17, 2001] "(HotShots) growth is evidence of positive experiences."

Q. Does HotShots ask parents to sell raffle tickets or work in food booths?
A. No! HotShots doesn't expect parents to pay the program fee, then ask them to sell raffle tickets, work in food booths or even find sponsors. Everything is included in the fee (including the team shirt).

Q. What about practices and games?
A. Each team* is allotted 1 - one hour practice per week. The head coach will choose a site as close to the home area of their team as possible, along with the day and time - from a list provided to HotShots by the Vancouver & Evergreen School Districts. Practice days are Monday - Thursday, and practice start times are between 5 - 8 PM. Requests for a certain practice day for your child is difficult, as the coach chooses that day, not the league. Please be aware that practices will be canceled on occasion, due to school activities, holidays or other conflicts. Teams are not guaranteed a certain number of practices. The league fee is based on many factors, but not on practice time.
* Please note: HotShots can provide a practice gym for teams within the Vancouver & Evergreen school districts only. Teams from outside these districts are valued and welcome in HotShots, but must obtain and pay for their own practice gym.
Games are played Friday evenings and throughout the day Saturday. We've attempted to schedule HotShots seasons as conveniently as possible, knowing that many of our players also do other sports. While making schedules, HotShots keeps in mind where teams are from, attempting to schedule as many games as possible close to home. You'll play teams from all over Vancouver however, so it'll be necessary to play occasionally "away". No matter where you live, we have game sites nearby.

Q. Where does HotShots find coaches?
A. Most of HotShots coaches are parents of a player. As with any youth sport, we're dependent on parent volunteers. (Obviously, if we had to hire and pay coaches, the sports fee would be unreasonably high). Coaches are usually in short supply, so HotShots encourages parents to step up, either in helping us secure a coach, or possibly coaching themselves. HotShots works to make the experience as painless as possible! Actually, coaches continue to say how much fun they've had - and most return year after year. Note: All HotShots head coaches are screened through the Washington State Patrol background check.

Q. May a coach bring a pre-formed team into HotShots?
A. Yes. One note: HotShots fills teams to 10 players - so if a team has less than 10, they have three choices. Either recruit additional players of their choice, HotShots can place players, or the team may "buy out" the remaining spots. We strive to keep the league fee as low as possible, but we factor our expenses based on teams of 10. If a team is interested in playing with less than 10 players, contact the league office to work out details.
